What Are Pearly Penile Papules?

Pearly penile papules, also known as hirsuties coronae glandis or hirsuties papillaris genitalis, are small flesh-colored skin tags commonly found on the sulcus or corona of the male genitals. In plain terms, they appear on the rim and underside of the glans.

Round and bumpy to threadlike in shape, they frequently appear in one or several rows, like the pearls in a necklace. They do not break open or pop like pimples. Neither are they painful, burning, or irritating, although some men find they produce an uncomfortable sensation.

These tiny papules are not sexually transmitted and are completely benign. Known medically as hirsuties papillaris genitalis, they appear for reasons unknown. It is known that they do not arise from any sexual activity or hygiene deficiencies.

Men typically see them in their twenties and thirties. Also, uncircumcised males seem to develop them more frequently than men who are circumcised. Again, the reasons why are unknown. Reports of how commonly the papules appear vary according to the source; the number is somewhere in the range between 8 percent and 48 percent.

Are They Harmful?

Men understandably freak out when they discover something unusual growing on their genitals. When they see pearly penile papules, they often worry that it is a sign of cancer, genital warts, or some other sexually transmitted disease. In actuality, these papules are complete harmless and are not a malignant dermatological growth.

Pearly penile papules are known to appear and disappear completely on their own. However, it is understandable that men do not want to live with them on their “male friend”. Seeing them can cause anxiety, embarrassment, and fear.

Many men find it awkward to talk about them with their sexual partners, even though they are nothing to be ashamed of, and they are definitely not contagious. Unfortunately, the psychological distress men feel is infinitely more harmful than the papules themselves.

The worst thing a man can do is try to pop or pick them off. Not only could it lead to permanent scarring, but also serious infection. If you are not sure what to do with your condition, it might be wise to consult a doctor about treatment options.

Board certified dermatologists have the most knowledge of these developments, although even medical professionals occasionally mistake them for genital warts. And, as with any unusual findings on the genitals, it is best to bring it to the attention of a doctor to make sure it is not something else that could be malignant.

The Best Options to Remove Them

Carbon Dioxide Laser Ablation

A doctor will likely recommend carbon dioxide laser ablation to remove or at least to diminish the papules. Of course, most men become queasy at the thought of medical procedures on the sensitive genital region. However, this laser treatment is quick and relatively simple.

The dermatologist will numb the area with a lidocaine cream; no shots or injections are necessary. After sensation in the affected area is gone, the dermatologist carefully zaps the pearly penile papules with the carbon dioxide laser, vaporizing them without damaging the surrounding skin. The laser beam is no wider than a pencil tip, making it very precise.

Afterward, men may experience swelling, crusting, and scabs, but those effects should last no longer than a week or two. The recovery period is for the most part painless. Men can even return to work the next day with no problems.

After the area has fully healed, sexual activity can recommence with no issues. Laser treatment is the most common and safest treatment available. It’s one solution when the embarrassment or anxiety caused by pearly penile papules is too much to handle.

If the idea of having laser ablation treatment to remove the penile papules is still too unsettling or frightening, or you can’t afford it (this is rather costly operation), men always have the option of leaving the papules alone and letting nature take its course. They can disappear on their own over time as long as they are not meddled with by picking or scratching.

Remove Your Papules in the Privacy of Your Own Home

Another treatment option men have is called the “Pearly Penile Papules Removal” system. Josh Marvin, a man who suffered from papules since he was a young teenager, developed a home treatment that does not require expensive medical treatments, home freezing kits of questionable quality, or painful home remedies like iodine.

With some of those drugstore freezing kits, the skin can peel off. No man wants that to happen on his “male friend”. With his removal system, men can painlessly treat papules in the privacy of their own homes without the risk of scarring. The all-natural removal system has no negative side effects and works on any skin type.

Josh Marvin understands that most men are not satisfied with the “just live with it” solution. So what if they are harmless? It is still something most men are self-conscious about, and a crippling anxiety definitely impacts the sex life in a negative way.

As the creator of this system knows from personal experience, living with the papules is no picnic; in his adolescence and early adulthood he started avoiding social settings for fear of being ridiculed for the bumps on his genitals. Even talking to the doctor was too humiliating and uncomfortable.

Some men may not have the option of raising enough money for carbon dioxide laser ablation and would find it too awkward to ask family or friends for the funds. With his removal system, men can take back control of their lives, boost their confidence, and protect their egos in the bedroom.

No one should have to live with papules if they cause anxiety, distress, and embarrassment. With the proper treatment, penile papules can become a thing of the past.
